In Portugal, Ana Laíns appreciates to be known as a “painter of music” – painting with the colors of the country that is her great passion. And what Ana Laíns has painted since 1999, the year she became a professional singer, is the music that led to her winning Portugal’s top fado competition and thus, initiating a career of international fame and reputation. Ana Laíns carries Fado and Portuguese traditional Music in her voice, but she goes further.
The release of her first record, “Sentidos” in 2006, drew widespread attention in the Portuguese and international press. In Portugal they called her “ a Great revelation”, and the British publication “Songlines” singled it out for special commendation as contemporary expression of Fado.
In 2010, Ana’s 2nd álbum “Quatro Caminhos” with an unparalleled breadth of lyrical expression and emotional honesty, was reviewed widely in international press.In Holland “Jazzism” Magazine mentions the “Real worldmusic coming from Portugal, and “VPro Gids” magazine, speaks of Ana’s elegance and natural command of the voice.In Australia, the “Daily Planet” agrees, and points Ana’s pure and powerfull voice.
Ana Laíns’ unique approach to music has attracted the attention and collaboration of numerous top artists in Portugal and beyond. In addition to her many collaborators on her first two records, she recorded with the award-winning singer Boy George, who pronounced her vocals on their collaboration “Amazing Grace” as “sublime.”
Due to her work in promoting and performing traditional and emerging Portuguese music, In 2014, Ana Laíns served as Embassador for the celabration of 8 centuries of Portuguese Language”, and the ephemeris knows it’s hightlight, at the Closing Sold Out Concert at the prestigious Lisbon’s Belém Cultural center, which featured musical luminaries from eight Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Ivan Lins, Aline Frazão or Paulo de Carvalho.
She next traveled to the United States for an extensive tour, to engage Portuguese and American communities with her music. Over more than two weeks, she led workshops and shows in some of the most important American Universities, She returned in 2016 for a triumphant appearance at one of the largest Folk Festivals, in Lowell – Massachusetts.
2017 will be the year of the long-awaited return to the records, and she will keep travelling through her Portuguese Colors, showing to the world, the reason why she became a very expressive name in the Portuguese Music scene.
